So far it works on Vista (received a demo for at work) thus I would assume the final release will too.

GW ran fine on vista from the early betas, it just didnt add itself to the games list which is an easy thing to fix. However XP will still be the best platform to play it on for a long long time.

I run GW on my x64 machine running x64 Vista Ultimate Edition, and it runs *great*.

That is, great with my ATI Radeon x1950. Not so pretty on an NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT. Driver issues. :P That'll get fixed eventually (probably before release).

If you've got any Vista questions/concerns, I can try to answer them.

I'm getting a new computer with dual GeForce 7950. And Vista.

Next week, in theory. Wish me luck!

I'll be sticking with XP I think...last time I heard Microsoft were being Idiots by only allowing you to reinstall vista on a "new machine" once...so it'll go:

Buy Vista
Install Vista
Upgrade PC (eg new motherboard...SAME PC but the Operating Software will think it is different)
Re-Install Vista
Upgrade PC (say the hard drive breaks...need a new one)
Re inst...oh wait... "You have to spend £400 buying a new copy of Vista...have a nice day"

I think they backed down a bit on the re-install issue, but I do expect it will be worse than the already irritating activation/genuine advantage nonsense we have to go through. Oh, and OEM prices should be a lot less than £400 - you'd just have to remember to buy the new copy, with your new components.

Personally, I'm ignoring Vista. The beta install script failed on my laptop and offered no way to reboot without me unplugging the battery. After downloading 3 gigs and waiting ages through the install, I was so annoyed that I snapped the disc in half and swore I'd never buy it. Ever... and even if I back down on that, I'd rather wait 18 months, while the early-adopters perform the *actual* beta test.

It looks like too much of a resource hog anyway (I know, not exactly a surprise from MS). I've used all manner of 3rd party window effects/sidebars/gadgets etc with nothing like the resources Vista wants to run Aero. It's like they set themselves a challenge on how much they can waste. 128MB vid card - just to run the OS in pretty mode? Bah, humbug.

Well I'm using the final release of Vista x64 Ultimate now, and GW runs fine, on my geforce 6600gt (nvidia have released drivers now). i had all sorts of problems with lag on windows xp x64 so was forced to move to vista or got back to 32bit. But overall it works lovelyadn seems fine, although Vista is going to take a bit of getting used to...

Oh and Francis, you know that Vista is not released to the public until January?

That is good to hear...but I still don't trust Microsoft!

Vista isn't released to the public until Jan, but anyone on the betas/RCs would have a copy already. It's also released earlier to businesses than the general retail release (business release was today). But I don't know much about that stuff, I'm a nuts and bolts girl out here.

As for the "only able to reinstall once" thing, check out http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/wi...ing-terms.aspx Hopefully that clears the topic up.

Define 'release'.

For businesses was today: http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=36313
